Bats Lyrics

Bats tend to be divided into two suborders

Megabats are large and eat fruit, pollen and nectar

Microbats live off insects and small animals

Unlike megabats, they have large ears and tails

Of the 1400 plus species of bat just three

Are vampire bats, relying on blood to feed

Their teeth are so sharp they easily pierce through skin

Without the animal even noticing

Bats are the only mammals capable of true and sustained flight

At 60 miles per hour, they're the fastest mammal alive

It's a common misconception that bats are blind

Megabats can see better than humans with their large eyes

Microbats will depend on echolocation

Which omits high pitched sounds that reflects off objects back to them

Their scientific name's Chiroptera, that's Greek for hand wing

Because they have four long fingers and a thumb connected by skin
