Rats have hinged ribs that they can effortlessly collapse

Allowing them to squeeze through the smallest of gaps

Their tails are used to help balance and regulate

Their bodies temperature and a way to communicate

Bosavi woolly rats are the largest rat alive

They were only discovered in two thousand and nine

They can be nearly three feet long, most rats tend to be

Just a few inches in size, a group is called a mischief

Their teeth will never stop growing and can even gnaw

Through stone and metals with their powerful jaws

Their teeth can grow five inches a year so they must grind

Them down often to maintain a good size

Rats will look after each other if injured or sick

When they're happy their ears become more pink

With no companions they become depressed and lonely

As they are social living in colonies

They can hold their breath for minutes and they're great swimmers

For three days straight they're able to tread water

Using their back legs to paddle and their front to steer

Females can produce two thousand pups a year
