He was re-elected in '36 and '40, his third time

When war began, he claimed America neutral, wouldn't fight

But sent war goods to Europe for them to fight the Nazi plight

He declared war after Pearl Harbor, and focused our will

In '44, he was re-elected, and made law the GI Bill

But for years, his health had been declining, this, he tried to hide

On April 12, 1945, at Warm Springs, Franklin died

He served the nation for 12 of our most difficult years

He pulled us out of darkness, and worked to allay our fears
