Lyrics
THEM THAT DO THE WORK
When posh boys wearing suits that cost what I paid for my car
Said we're all in this together, well I just had to laugh.
All in this together? Do they think that I've gone soft?
I'll never trust these bought and paid-for Eton Toffs
They say that we're in trouble there's hard choices to be made
But it's us that do the work who always seem to have to pay
They never had to worry that their wages aren't enough
To pay the bills that must be paid all the other stuff
Like clothes for school and making sure the kids are getting fed
And how to pay the rent to keep a roof over their heads
No! They don't have worry, They know they will get by
As long as us that do the work keep swallowing their lies
It's very sad to say
It's always been the way
But I don't believe it means it's how it has to stay
The day will come when everybody
Gets what they deserve
And the fruits of their hard labour
Go to them that do the work
I'm to admit as far as education goes
I got enough to read and write and count up what I'm owed
But there's one thing that I did learn, that I always keep in mind
That's how to spot a con-man who's trying to rob you blind
The biggest con's the one done by the British ruling class
To make sure us that do the work keep covering their arse
It's very sad to say
It's always been the way
But I don't believe it means it's how it has to stay
The day will come when everybody
Gets what they deserve
And the fruits of their hard labour
Go to them that do the work
We know it's nothing new; it's always been this way
The workers do the work, the rich get richer every day
They say the wealth will trickle down, it hasn't happened yet
They've been saying this for years and still I'm waiting to get wet
The money fills the pockets of the people in control
And us that do the work are meant to do as we are told
It's very sad to say
It's always been the way
But I don't believe it means it's how it has to stay
The day will come when everybody
Gets what they deserve
And the fruits of their hard labour
Go to them that do the work
They bail out the banks, cut spending to the bone
Sell us shares in stuff we thought that we already owned
Blame the immigrants and scroungers, keep beating on the poor
They rake in all the profits and then hide their cash offshore
Count the money not the food banks but the day is gonna come
When us who do the work will make them pay for what they've done
It's very sad to say
It's always been the way
But I don't believe it means it's how it has to stay
The day will come when everybody
Gets what they deserve
And the fruits of their hard labour
Go to them that do the work
It's very sad to say
It's always been the way
But I don't believe it means it's how it has to stay
The day will come when everybody
Gets what they deserve
And the fruits of their hard labour
Here's a thought I'd like to savour
The fruits of their hard labour
Go to them that do the work
