A blind man's idea of dope, and a lover's addiction, dreaming of friction trying to cope

What is it that makes us carry on

What is it that we depend on to keep us strong

In the end of depression, where many are consumed, they're taken out prematurely from a single

All that's left is for our minds to be free, and education most definitely

What keeps you alive in the coldest of weather, and drives the mouse to the cheddar

Of the woman in my dreams and I together

Hope that the magic don't pass, and that we're not moving too fast

I hope that she's the one, so that I can stop looking at last

That the policemen don't blast

Mr. Officer, why is you checking my trash

Choking me out

Taking my humanity out my grasp

That I walk out this courtroom and escape the DA

Hope that I keep my freedom and stay liberated another day

Hope that the bailiff don't put them bracelets on me and force me to stay

I mean I really hope I haven't used up all the Lord's mercy

Under the jail I'm not trying to see

I pray for forgiveness to come ride with me

You see we all need it, whether or not we're just hoping for rain or for the Lord to deliver

Us from the pain of losing loved ones to the game

The hope of our people to one day rise above our circumstances

But since we're not promised tomorrow, every day I'm surprised

Hope for black leaders, not mainstream actors and sellouts from CNN's theaters

Hope for reparations and a payback

Hope for true education so prepare for the get back

Hope you feel what I'm saying and remember my words when all else is failing

Without hope we're hopeless

And I know you already know this, but let's try to stay focused
