I went to the beach just yesterday

To try and get myself away

From the grind and the ennui of my everyday life

I just knew that I had to get myself outside

Dug my feet so deep in the sand

Where the sea and the shore both met

Took a deep, deep breath of that salty sea air

And felt all the tangles in my back disappear

And I looked over to the other side

Where the mountaintops were stationed so high

I knew then, in that moment, that's where I need to be

I just knew that I had to get across the sea

So I started to walk further in

Knowing full well I don't know how to swim

Until my feet weren't touching the ground

And I realized I just might drown

Save me

I can't breathe

It's getting deep

It's getting dark

And all I wanted was the other side

I woke up on the beach the next day

With no memory of how I got there at all

I looked up at the sky through my sun bleached eyes

I didn't know whether or not I was alive

Sat up while still in the sand

And looked across the sea again

The mountaintops were still there kissing the sky

I never made it to the other side

So I got up and steadied my knees

And inhaled that salty sea breeze

Took another step into the sea again

Knowing full well it might have a different end

And I walked till I was covered in black

But I knew that I couldn't go back

Because I don't know how to swim

But what I want more than anything else

Is to make it to the other side
