A Bath & A Burial Lyrics

It's a wonderful thing to trust in Jesus

He is the only way for us to be saved

From this evil world and the power of sin

He is the one who gives us a life that lasts forever

Now, when we are persuaded that God's Good News really is true

And we decide we want to live God's way instead of our own way

Our next great step is to dedicate ourselves to God and His service

We want to leave our past behind

Do you remember that when Jesus was about to start His ministry

A man named John baptized Him in the water

And then God's Holy Spirit came on Him, giving Him power

It is very similar for us now

We, too, come to the water like Jesus did

When we are baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus

Something amazing happens

God works in that water to give us a bath and a burial

Let me explain

When we are dunked in the water

Calling on the name of the LORD

Pleading with Him to cleanse our conscience

His Spirit works in that water to give us a bath on the inside

And wash away our sins

Making us as pure as snow

Our conscience becomes clean

But that's not all

In that same moment, we also spiritually die with Jesus on His cross

Our old life that we used to live is over

No longer are we enslaved to sin

We have, at that moment, died and been buried, spiritually, with Jesus Christ

So, just like Jesus rose from the grave

We too rise up from the water and can live a new life

We don't have to serve sin anymore

The old life is dead and buried

So you see God gives us a bath and a burial

--A bath that washes away our past sins

And a burial to put our old life behind us

All of this is done because we believe that Jesus is God's Son

The anointed King

Who died on behalf of our sins and rose gloriously to new life

Just like Jesus died, we die

So that we can walk in a brand new life

Just like He rose victoriously from the grave

This is part of what Jesus referred to

When he said that we must be born again

Of water and spirit

We'll talk about spirit in a second

But for now, let's praise God for this amazing gift

Of having our sins and our old life washed away
