A Star to Steer By

Deep in the heart of the city, the wayward traveler came home

To bring good tidings of his prosperity to an audience of ghosts

He could hardly remember the names and the faces the wind had swept away

And he would never know the love and laughter they shared 'til their final days

Oh, how he did toast with the finest of spirits and dance with them through the night

And how he did share his most desperate prayer that he would be proven right

He regaled them with tales of his great travails and genius beyond compare

But as he said his goodbyes, he again realized only he was standing there

We look for a star to steer by and show us who we should be

We take no heed of the tide pulling us into the sea
