Scrambled Eggs and Toast Lyrics
- Genre:Gospel
- Year of Release:2022
Lyrics
When I was just a little boy, my mom taught me religion
Told me all the rules to keep to get in good with God
Say lots of prayers, don't kill or swear; don't lie or steal or cheat
On Sunday get to Mass, and on Friday don't eat meat
I prayed to lots of statues, I lit my share of candles
I told some lies - but only white - and I always went to church
I kept the rules, in fact I'd say I kept them better than most
'Cause every Friday, at every meal, I had scrambled eggs and toast
I don't like fish and I don't like cheese; I don't like macaroni
So it was extra hard for me when Friday'd roll around
But I kept the rules, in fact I'd say I kept them better than most
And every Friday, at every meal, it was scrambled eggs and toast
Well years went by and for all the rules I was mighty cold and empty
I knew that though I tried my best, I just wasn't right with God
So I got to readin' God's own words and as far as I could tell
For all the eggs, and for all the toast, I was goin' straight to hell
You see, the Bible says that we can never work our way to Heaven
In fact it says our best-est deeds are filthy rags to God
It says the just are saved by grace, not works, lest they should boast
And that's fine with me 'cause I've had my fill of scrambled eggs and toast
I don't like lies, and I don't frauds, and I don't like Man's Religion
I don't like folks who'd have me hope where there's no hope to find
The Bible says I'm saved by grace, not works, lest I should boast
And that's fine with me 'cause I've had my fill of religion, eggs and toast
Now I know that on the day I die I'm headed straight to Heaven
And I know that He who saved me can keep me in His hand
And there'll be no stops in firey spots along the road to home
'Cause Jesus died and paid the price for every sin I've known
But I don't think free salvation is a license for loose living
'Cause it's hardly free when it cost the blood of the only Son of God
And the law now is the Law of Christ, and I serve the Lord above
Not from fear, or dread of Hell, but from gratitude and love
Yes, I love the truth, I love the Lord, and I love the Holy Bible
I love the blood He shed for me when I was in my sin
And now I'm free from keepin' rules to serve the Lord I love
Not from fear, or dread of Hell, but from gratitude and love
And now I'm free to serve the Lord from gratitude and love
