Lyrics
The king said, 'Go save the princess fair
She's trapped in a tower, way up there.'
So I donned my armor, sharp and bright
Set out to battle in the dead of night
Through forest and swamp, I made my way
To the dragon's lair at the break of day
Sword in hand, I kicked the door
Ready to fight and settle the score!
But the princess wasn't crying, she wasn't in despair
She was sipping tea with a dragon in her lair!
They were laughing, they were cozy, holding hands in the firelight
And I thought to myself, 'Well, this ain't right.'
The princess looked up, gave a little cheer
'Oh, hello, brave knight, what brings you here?'
I stammered and stuttered, my script went awry
'Uh, your dad sent me... to... make the dragon die?'
They both burst out laughing, I felt like a fool
'Kill my partner? That's just cruel!'
The dragon leaned close, her smile was sly
'Wanna rethink your plan, little guy?'
'Cause the princess wasn't screaming, she wasn't in distress
She was baking scones in her dragon-print dress!
They were happy, they were thriving, love glowing in their sight
And I thought to myself, 'Well, this ain't right.'
Couldn't return empty-handed, the king would blow his lid
'What now?' I asked, 'What'll I tell the king I did?'
The dragon grinned wide, with a flick of her tail
'Why don't you stick around, we'll need a knight for sale!'
Now I polish the hoard, keep the castle clean
Fetch their groceries, if you know what I mean
Not quite the hero's tale I thought I'd tell
But hey, the benefits are great, so it works out well!
Now the princess isn't crying, she's living her best life
With her dragon partner, not a damsel, not a wife!
We're all happy, we're all thriving, in this castle lit so bright
And I thought to myself, 'Maybe this is right.'
So if you're on a quest, remember this story well
Things aren't always as the legends tell
Not every dragon needs to be slain
And love doesn't fit in a hero's refrain
