On the seventh day, I rise before the sun

My eyes flutter open

The anxiety settles in again

I taste the tears on my tongue

I'm bruised

Accused

But there was nothing left to break

For you'd already searched me of my broken parts

The scraps of my dignity lie woven with empty bottles at the bar

I was easy prey

A girl who came to witness her dreams turn to flames

But religion is business

Now I bow my head

In silent reverence of what you did

Sometimes I wonder if you were right all along

Maybe it was all in my head

Maybe it really wasn't that bad at all

But when the haze dissipates

I see you for what you are

Sitting on a throne of lies while I kneel below

Scathed by a burning lesson learned

Using the infallible word

You alienated me from my community

In the name of my alleged ignorance

They whisper about it

Their carelessness a gift I never unwrapped

I guess that struck the right vein

My faith begins to break
