Lyrics
I was walking round the corner
When I dropped my lucky quarter
That was when I thought I saw her
Looking straight into my eyes
As it dropped to my feet
It went a'rollin down the street
I tried to chase it but she picked it up
Before I could catch up
And I said no
That coin is lucky
You leave it alone!
Now whilst I composed myself
I looked her up and down
And what I saw was a face
That was so out of place
It is uncommon to see
This kind of natural beauty
I turned around
Lifted my frown
And changed my tone with some deceit
As she held my lucky relic
I decided on a trick
So I asked her on a date
Said that maybe it was fate
I said that she should flip it
As she did I reached to grip it
In the air to my despair
I missed the coin it landed heads
And I said NO! You won the flip with your shout and now we've gotta go out
And then she smiled and winked at me
Picked up my currency
Took it away from me
And now I've got company
As we walked I gave her flack
To make her give my money back
My mind was racing off the track
I thought I'd have a heart attack
Told her that I did not lend her
Threatened I would apprehend her
Begged her for my precious tender
Til she gave it back
And she said so
The evening's young let's go eat
I know a place down the street
And then with fingers entwined
We looked for places to dine
Her pocket jingled
But I quickly put it out of my mind
In our hasty rush
To beat the early evening crush
We ran into a road
And did not notice the approaching bus
Now it's my firm belief
That I would have been crushed beneath
The grinding wheels of public transport
Like a fragile fallen leaf
Time and again
Come moments when
My quarter lends a hand
And on this occasion
Bus evasion
Must have been its plan
You see a week or so before a hole began to grow
In the pocket of my jeans though at this time I did not know
The weight of objects there inside
Had helped the hole to grow just wide enough
To let my quarter slide
I felt it rolling down my thigh
Stationary coin retrieval
Saved me from the deadly diesel
Engine with its roar so evil
Surely would have proven lethal
As I stood I heard a sound
As if by reflex looked around
Was unprepared for what I found
My date was laying on the ground
Ran to check if she survived
And quickly found that she was fine
And that was when I recognised
The universe's sign
And I said woah
As she held out a dime
That she'd had the whole time
While my quarter protected me
She too was danger free
This girl is as weird as me
It can only be destiny
