Lyrics
See the awesome temple rise, agleam within the noonday skies
An altar to the ego on the throne
Within the temple's sacred walls where humanists don prayer shawls
And bow to idols crafted out of stone
Yet far outside the bright confines, a beaten, bruised, and bloodied Vine
Upon the Cross now dies
A failure in the eyes of those whose cultured brows have scorned the Rose
And missed the God Who's hidden in disguise
Temples are fading but love is awaiting in Christ
His sacrifice
Pride will undo but His love will renew
The oasis, in kenosis
Let our temples fall, He is all in all
Ascending through the marble stairs to meddle in divine affairs
And worship at this temple's inner court
For blithely do we take the crown, professing knowledge, bowing down
And worship this divinity of sorts
Yet draw the curtain back, we find that all our sophistries are blind
When faced with Love so raw
We turn from making gods of men, instead encounter Christ's Amen
And recognizing God is all-in-all
Have we chosen pragmatism over deeper, holy wisdom
Of the paradox of pierced hands?
Would we rather anarchy or else the hill of Calvary
And mystery too deep for mortal man?
The god of human reason finds that when exposed to sands of time
All things fade away
Love alone, in cruciform is strong enough to stand the storm
And in the end, the rugged cross remains
