Well Grandpa used to play the 5 string banjo

In a vaudeville band in 1925

But Grandma doesn't listen to much music anymore

Ever since Grandpa up and died

She remembers Grandpa's old stripped jacket

And that man who played that rusty old trombone

Since she's living in the old folk's home

But they take her shopping right down the street

Back then he said there was no need for drums

For the banjo players hammered out the rhythm

And Grandma she is one for telling stories

She told me how she always took the chance

For whenever Grandpa played up on the bandstand

She tried to coax him down so they could dance

And they'd do the Charleston the latest craze

And they'd do the Foxtrot those were the days

Now Grandma's got a scrapbook filled with prized possessions

Like the time he played the White House in his tux

And that picture that she has of Mrs. Coolidge

She don't recall Calvin saying much

But she remembers dancing right on the lawn

Those days were magic those days are gone
