A thousand miles east of here live 40 million people

In a land often overrun by empires east and west

First it was Crimea and then it was Donetsk

Now Vladimir Putin wants control of all the rest

Zelensky and Klitschko are the faces of democracy

Defiantly resisting the will of foreign autocracy

They're not drug addicted NATO neo-Nazis

And they certainly don't want to become Russian Proxies.

Unlike Lukashenko, the head of Belarus

Who along with Russia has Ukraine in a noose

Yes it's Putin's war, but he's not under siege

Unlike the people in Kyiv fighting just to live

I remember '68 when the whole world was watching

This time we're doing more than simply talking

Showing solidarity, giving money, arms, and blood

Welcoming the refugees; coming like a flood

Will it be enough, who can say

Or will a nuclear war have its day

Dialog alone won't bring world peace

You can't stop a bully when you appease

Our minds ache for you

We'll do all that we can

Our hearts break for you

This evil must not stand

The earth might be inherited by the meek

But evil finds a way to prey on the weak

We want to be civilized.

We need to be human.

Why can't we be civilized? Why

Ukraine is not yet dead, nor its glory and freedom

Luck will still smile on us brother-Ukrainians

Our enemies will die

As the dew does in the sunshine

And we too brothers

We'll live happily in our land
