Lyrics
You may have heard of the notion of the cultural mosaic
The diversity of Canadian cities is obvious to anyone who has spent any time in some of Canada's largest metropolitan areas
Whether it be Toronto, Montreal, or Vancouver
Immigration plays an integral part in the development of multiculturalism within Canada
Look at me, skinny nerdy kid, Asian slanted eyes
And he tries, to fit in a rather homogeneous life
No disguise, it is clear I'm different never can be white
Agonized, had my stories of being bullied ostracized
Just like any other child growing up, I ain't special
Just another lost voice out of many several
This is not a one time, not an isolated case
I could never be the face of one entire race
By 2018, immigration had already made up 61% of Canada's population growth
And we expect these numbers to increase significantly for the next two decades
Especially in the large metropolitan cities
I got to tell the truth I fucking hate the smaller towns
Where more likely xenophobics there they tend to crawl around
My living hell Sherbrooke, there when I was young
Just to put it mildly you won't hear diverse mother tongues, over there
Just another symptom of my problem there
Many issues with little boroughs secluded from the urban
My view has worsened I would never go back that's for certain
This ain't no place for a minority or ethnic person
By 2031, it is projected that between 25 to 28 percent of the population will be foreign-born
And 29 to 32 percent of the population will belong to a visible minority group
We can also presume that as the level of urbanization increases
We will observe a decrease in the amount of racist attitudes and xenophobic sentiments towards ethnic minorities
I don't really hate them, I guess I just pity them
Not being exposed to difference nor education more ignorant
Not being exposed to cultural diversity nobody different
That makes the presence of racism be that more significant
So I pack up my bags, and I move to the city
And the people I left I don't care because they don't miss me
The feeling is mutual don't me hit up cause I'm busy
I'm getting down and gritty with my brand new friends and community
It's a culture shock sure, but it be rather positive
Seeing diverse cultures and faces in this metropolis
All of this real evocative opposite of homogeneous
I think I caught feelings for the cosmopolitan shit
Where is the racist, where is the hatred?
Where are the snide remarks to couples interracial dating?
I am still waiting, but no it rarely ever comes or never comes
I'm in the safe haven, safe from discrimination
Surrounded by people from every background whether you be Black or Jewish or gay
Russian or German okay, Arab or Muslim okay, Irish or Indian okay
Where is the hate, the love is great
There is no hate in Montreal but only warmth, and I love it that way
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it disappeared
I'm just saying that there's less of it over here
I'm just saying that there's less of it over here
Where is the hatred, where is the hatred
Where is the hatred, where is the hatred
Where is the hatred, where is the hatred
Where is the hatred, where is the hatred
