Lyrics
December 24th
Is Christmas Eve each year
Candlelight singing Silent Night
Brings tidings of good cheer
This year the deacons said
"Let's put on a pageant play
To remember then the reason
We celebrate the season
The Child born to save"
Mary and Joseph, with
A real-life donkey too
Held a little baby doll
And sang a song or two
With one big gesture
Joseph hit sweet Mary's hands
So the baby doll went flying
And Mary started crying
But no one saw where it lands
It was a broken pageant play
All the children on display
It may be radical
But I'll take Sabbatical
At Christmas time next year
The children's choir sang
Angels heard on high
This year Tommy Baker
Had grown to twice his size
He took a step out front
To sing the big solo
But his Vocal range was bending
And his octaves were descending
So the angels were heard on low
It was a broken pageant play
All the children on display
It may be radical
But I'll take Sabbatical
At Christmas time next year
Each Wiseman struggled to
Remember their next line
Proclaiming gifts they brought of gold
Myrrh and Frankenstein
A fourth and final gift
Laid right before our eyes
And the play was quickly over
We recognized an odor
The Donkey left a surprise
So then it was my turn
To preach a homily
But after such disaster
I could only say one thing
When broken people have
A broken pageant play
I'm reminded of the reason
We celebrate this season
That Jesus came to save
