Luck or Destiny

I met an old friend only by coincidence

It'd been a long time since we'd shared experiences

She talked of her life now and all of its seriousness

I spoke of how I gave it up for a life full of randomness

She spoke of law school and rules and rooms full of magistrates

I spoke of walking through the woods looking for sassafras

Her eyes filled

And then they spilled

She said that life didn't seem to have the same sort of nourishment

She said she'd thought she'd spent her days on things of no consequence
