A Boy I Left Behind

Once there was a boy with open hands and fearless eyes

Running through the summer fields beneath the boundless skies

The air was thick with innocence, a world unscarred by pain

But it all dissolved the moment that innocence was stained

The laughter turned to silence, the sun hid from my view

I searched for answers in the earth, but none of them were true

I left a boy beneath those trees, where his dreams could bloom and grow

Now I'm a man who cannot heal, carrying what I'll never show

He called to me, but I couldn't stay—I turned and closed the door

And the boy I left behind is not here anymore
