Star-Crossed

Uncertain times like a coin we were soon tossed

Heads we stayed together and tails we stayed lost

We both had a sad talent turning love's gold into dross

Ill-fated by destiny our night sky remained star-crossed

One winter in the cabin the wind turned our lives to frost

A token appearance on our part only misleading to gloss

We thought we had a love no one could take or exhaust

Without regard we refused to sit together and count the cost

Sinners always take sides and we were both already in

It wasn't a matter of who or what but more why and when?

We held on to each other as a wheel clipped onto its axle pin
