The star stands still in darkness as the moon looks down at me

The crickets play as bullfrogs sing the water's testimony

The rain and thunder teach me hymns, the ashtray says, you owe me

The wonder's in a lost man's head when he asks himself, if only

I saw his fear beneath his smile as his soul cried out in silence

Am I alone, or am I home, or are they even divided

He tasted life, he tasted death, he swam in good and evil

He'd walked the line and did his time, living in between them

He stumbled back from the last of memories that flash in black

He mumbled as he slowly passed the history of his troubled past
