Snowflakes in Fire

In the neon haze, all the regulars gaze at her dancing there

They don't know her real name, they don't feel her pain, but they love to stare

When she takes a break, she sits outside and shakes flakes of snow from her hair

Like snowflakes in fire, the minutes melt away

She wants to rescue the hours before they hit the flames

She goes home alone, she unplugs her phone and puts a pen to her page

The paper takes it all in, the abuse and the sin, the remorse and the rage

She seals it with a teardrop, puts it in a pine box and drives upstate in the rain
