One Parade More

When this summer is done I'll be seventy one oh yeah

It'll still be September still a ways from December ah-huh

I remember parades those Memorial Days that told me that summer's begun

Flying flags at half-mast every blast from the past shouted Labor Day would never come

Three more weeks of the summer yay but something had changed in the air

Buying clothes for the autumn my mom and I bought 'em oh yeah

The state fair had packed up and they hauled it on out to the next town and one after that

No such luck for us kids - we'll do again what we did - wrap up tie a bow and that's that

But when this summertime's done and I'm seventy-one I'll sit back with a once cold iced tea

Ever stuck in my head there's a rhyme I was read about staying too long at the fair
