Dream of Leaving

Of course I dream of leaving my car for a horse and a saddle and a western bar

With a fire burning and venison stew and wilderness and me and you

In an end To glassed-in plastic walls that we sit behind As civilization falls

Of course I dream of leaving my job, be one less speck in a swelling mob

And only earn what I build by hand or harvest from the actual land

Not some cyber-universe where animal instincts are moving in reverse

Of course I dream of leaving my home for the wilderness where I would roam

And only eat what I could hunt and not be afraid to confront

Storms and cliffs and fighting men instead of fighting debt again and again
