Adapt

I wake up

Clear the stickiness from my eyes with a sharp knuckle

From the window

I see my body like crushed stars

I can just make out a drop of dew sliding down the glass

My mother weeping.

I pick at my age from a pile of clothes spread out on the floor

A cat moves like liquid looping between

My legs

Lap lap lapping at my feet drenched in milk

I beg for the ability to feel its soft fur graze against my bare skin

I bet it is a wonderful feeling
