Familiar Ghosts

I was sick on my birthday it gave me time to think

We were talking through the laundry chute like soda cans and spools of string

Living in the basement, it's an easy place to hide

But there's not enough blankets to make the cold subside

Nothing feels the same

Is it because the way I look at things? I can't let go

We've changed we've grown to strangers and familiar ghosts

I couldn't bring myself to fill the space that's left

Instead we filled our cups, and chests with empty words and cigarettes

The years have gone much faster than I'd hoped to see them pass
