Longhorn

Been rough and rowdy since the day I was born

To a mama sweeter than fresh shucked sugar corn

I fell into a cactus she said "boy you been warned"

Before she showed me how to pluck out them thorns

Told my ma and daddy they might have to mourn

Came out small and scrawny, a little deformed

Baptized in the middle of freak ice storm

"If this one don't make it least he'll meet the lord"

But I was her new baby swaddled and warm

Mama told the doctor he was misinformed
