Ghosts

Yesterday a man walked by and told his dog that I was a ghost

I held my hands against my face and questioned all the things that I held close

Listened as the world moved on and complicated storylines played out

Until the sound of reveling stirred me from the focus I had found

Annie played the organ for the people in the church across the town

She says she does it for the Lord cause sometimes he's the only one around

Inbetween the services she rides the bus to keep the dark away

Wishing she could play the chord that brings to her the peace for which she'd prayed

Not enough seasons, one too many years

Counting up the reasons for hiding the tears
