Tried to write a song about the separation of church and state

Where you made the policies and I took up the congregation

And we got pretty good at holding each other at arm's length

But you held my hand anyway, now my knees buckle and my voice shakes

We made rules we couldn't follow, lines we couldn't see

The walls we worked so hard to build fell down so easily

Hoped it would be easy, prayed it wouldn't hurt

But for sin or for sanction I got what I deserved
