Following the white line ain't as easy as it used to be

The two lane and even the four lane, they're becoming history

We'd pack up our old pickup and we'd cruise at 55

Stopping at our pit stops of diners, shops and dives

I drove an old Ford pickup, one half black and one half red

The radio dial was always tuned to Austin's KOKE FM

We'd cruise from town to town and never worry about the time

We'd get there when we got there, following the faint white line

Nowadays putting miles on the tires ain't what they seem

You could drive for miles and miles and never stop for gasoline
