If I Fell Today

I'm on the bleeding edge of the western world

In the middle of a story that I've left untold

Until not very long ago

I sat cold in the summer on a couch with my mother

And death was hanging heavy in the room

But Jesus making all things new walked right out of a tomb

And sat by my side sharing the grief wiping the tears from my eyes

To remind how I came alive as a kid with eyes so wide

I knew all that I needed to decide to let my little light shine

But rung after rung on this ladder I climb under threats of violence

Left my inner child to die in silence
