The Old Days

In lean years there was plenty, even when we didn't have enough

We all worked til sundown; we were sweating when that ole sun came up

When it rained we were glad, and when it didn't we were sad

But we always gave thanks for our meal

There was bread on our plate, even if it was late

And there was never a reason to steal

I miss the old days when we didn't have new ways

Of keeping us happy when life wasn't what it should be

I miss the old days when people could find ways

Of fighting and mending without losing your friends
