How have you been? – Yeah, OK

What about you? – Yeah, I'm good

How are the kids? - Yeah, they're fine these days

What have you been up to? – Not much, drinking more than I should

So much more than I should

And it went on like that; information in single file

All hesitant and distant as it had been quite a while

And as our recent lives unfurled, she said she'd found a man

And at that point, my world and my heart caved in

I kinda held it together; on the outside at least
