Can't Really Stay

The sun rose brightly on a warm summer's day

And I went walking 'cross the new-mown hay

The birds were singing while the flies buzzed their tune

And the cotton clouds were running 'cross the morning moon

I asked them to wait a while to brighten up my day

And they said, we'd like to but we've things to do

And we can't really stay

So I kept on my wandering to see what I would see

And a pretty butterfly came flying up to me

I said, say pretty butterfly, it's such a grand old day

Won't you stay a while and make me smile and you and I could play
