Testing it, feeling its pulse, taking its temperature

Until they all developed a real affection for it

It came to be almost like a human being

And as you watch them

While it was standing there in solitary splendor

You had the feeling that everyone somehow stood up a little straighter than he normally did

The great sense of pride and accomplishment
