Every day I hit the street and it seems so empty

People looking back at me with eyes that beg me

California booms like a big beat bass drum

And nobody knows where the hum comes from

I wanna be a star but it seems so worthless

When kids are making tennis shoes for ten pennies a day

I need to get off the grid making my final bid

Everybody knows that this is just stupid

If I could make everybody feel a little better

Maybe wake up on the way to work
