Makin' Up Stories

Last few times that I talked to my dad, we talked about dyin'

About heartache and pain and regret and how everyone's tryin'

To make peace with it all in the end, when there ain't no use to pretend

And if we say that we're not afraid, well we're probably lyin'

There's too many things, we cannot explain

Yet every new verse just returns to this same old refrain

And we'll do anything to find some relief

We keep makin' up stories to try and make sense of our grief

Some people think Jesus, he died on the cross for our sins

Some think when this life is over, we'll come back again
