I wanted to include a voicememo in this part of the song of our voices

As a way to transport listeners to that period in my life

I've spent so much time thinking about childhood

And what it was like to be surrounded by those I love

So I found one--listened to it

Couldn't believe some of the things I was saying

I was so embarrassed by myself

So I decided not to include the recording on this song

But instead record something new as some sort of gesture of moving past that

So I decided to record this instead

As some sort gesture to myself that I've moved on or grown in some way

It scared me

I can't believe I sounded so fucking stupid

Maybe my childhood wasn't what I thought it was

Maybe my friends weren't the people I thought they were

These recordings have been kinda my way of like processing that

Or some sort of romanticized version of that
