Once Upon A Time on the first way to school

There was a teacher named Ann

And teaching to her was new

And as she introduced herself to the new young crew

She did what most people do, and said some things that weren't true

I love all my students the same was the statement she said

But that was impossible to 5th grader named ted

Slumped in the front row

Everything dirty but his soul

Aint get along with nobody

To her, he's out of control

She watched him for a year

Unpleasant and angry

Even got a little joy from putting F's on his paper

One day she read a file from previous past behavior

That's when she discovered the reason behind the changes

First Grade notes Teddy's bright and loves to laugh

2nd grade notes he excellent love math

3rd grade notes been hard since mother passed

4th grade notes Teddy will barely pass

Its hard to be free when you caught up in the system

And its hard to beat the odds when the odds are against ya

Ms. Ann felt ashamed of the way that she had perceived him

That day she stop teaching math and started teaching children

And came Christmas time…

Students gave the teachers gifts of all different kinds

Wrapped up in bows and Ribbons but not Teddys prize

Just brown bag paper

Half bottle of perfume

Missing stone in a tennis bracelet…

Other kids started laughing at what lil Teddy brung

But Ms. Ann said "enough!" and how pretty that it was

Dabbed on the perfume and put the tennis bracelet on

After class Teddy stuck around after the bell rung

He said Ms. Ann today you smelled just how my mommy used to

And she cried for an hour after he left through

Teddy started excelling after that moment too

Guess a little push only thing he needed

To get em through

By the end of the year he was the smartest in the class

By the end of the year it was time for teddy to pass

A couple years later she got a letter after class

From Teddy saying she was the best teacher he ever had

A couple of years had went by

Ted wrote another letter, graduated Cooley High

Told her shes the best teacher God ever supplied

I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of his heart

Four more years drifted on

College days, Roll along

Misses Ann this was hard, But I gotta stay strong

Got my bachelors degree

Think Imma keep goin

For doctorate

Sincerely gotta thank you for sure

The next letter read like the last

Except the end—ing

Miss Ann was so proud of the boy who turned man

Child who thought he couldn't

To a man that knows he can

But the letters didn't stop

Teddy wrote her again.

Teddy met a girl

And to marry her was the plan

His pop died a few years ago

So as it stands in the place of his mom

He wanted to put Ms. Ann

She agreed to be there

Add joy to the room

And of course, she wore the bracelet

And the same perfume

At the wedding Ted thanked her

For being so kind and true

Believing in my sun

When only rain was pouring through
