Lyrics
Every summer by the oak tree shade
Two old buzzards in the heat parade
Were sippin' on beer from a rusty old cooler
Talkin' 'bout the past when life was the ruler
Backyard buzzard buddies sittin' in the shade
Tellin' tall tales 'til the day was made
Gnarly old friends with a bond so true
Just a couple of clowns on this patio zoo
They'd squawk and laugh swap the same old stories
How they wrangled up women and chased silly glories
From first grade to gray they stuck like glue
Two crusty old buzzards with nothin' else to do
But then one morning the buzzard calls stopped
A beer sat unopened a lawn chair was propped
Seems one flew the coop and left the other behind
Now the backyard's empty and the world feels unkind
Backyard Buzzard Buddies sittin' in the shade
Tellin' tall tales 'til the day was made
Gnarly old friends with a bond so true
Now only one left on this patio zoo
But one day a truck pulled up next door
With a young fella grinnin' and a "Howdy" galore
Moved into the house where the older buzzard stayed
And suddenly life didn't seem so gray!
This young buzzard taught him about phones and apps
Tried yoga once but it gave him the cramps
They laughed like fools different as can be
But a buzzard's a buzzard in good company!
Backyard buzzard buddies sittin' in the sun
A new friend made and the laughs rolled on
Young or old they found something true
A brand-new pair on this patio zoo
Years rolled by just as they always do
The other older buzzard said goodbye too
But in the backyard under that tree
Younger buzzard laughs at all the memories!
He cracks a cold one raises it high
"Here's to the old buzzards who taught me to fly!"
And though they're both gone their spirit remains
In the summer sun where love and laughter reigns!
