When winter frees its icy grip

And Spring imposes ownership

The sun awakes the sleeping earth

Inviting its renewal

The cycle has begun

Into the arms of Summer

A chorus of the birds and bees

Fills the air amongst the trees

Until they lessen by degrees

They sense a change is coming

Autumn takes us by surprise

As swallows fill September skies

Instinct leads their journey south

When summer days are over

October winds bring early frost

A warning to the world just lost

That what is born must surely die

Its purpose spent and over

Frost and mist and winter snow

Then shroud the earth and storm winds blow

A time to rest, when all things know

The wheel has turned full circle

Winter's breath blows cold and mean

The landscape fixed as in a dream

Suspended from its frozen beam

The moon, a silent witness

This world of seasons and of men

Then journeys round the sun 'till when

The circle brings them round and then

The cycle all begins again
