Lyrics
Small poem
The goodness still remains
The flare bomb blooms on the dark sky
The child claps his hands and laughs
I hear the sound of the gun
And the laugh dies
But the goodness still remains
My name is Captain Monarda
I'm here to kick-start a plant revolution a photosynthetic movement
Pull out the ferns and cover the swales and berms with fruit trees
And bushes of berries kicking out new leaves
Bee balm buzzing with pollinators and smooth breeze
Good vibes under the sun with the Saguaro
Chilling with the creosote bushes for new tomorrows
Climbing like the ivy the heights as high as the redwoods
Live a thousand years with the ginkgos longer than men could
Shout out to the house plants living for some fresh air
Catch me in the forest while you're sleeping in your deck chair
Kill your lawn replace it with native species
And watch the succession fill all the ecological niches
We got all the plants here that my yard could fit in
Is that a Diospyros? Nah it's just a persimmon
We the greenest revolution since the 1960s
Take away the pesticides and then just add a couple mixed seeds
Pawpaws next to the hickory trees and walnuts
Cutting back the weeds so the cannabis grows among us
It's a food forest oak savannah Permaculture meadow
With the milkweed seeding next to waterfalls
A little bit of breeze and the seeds go pfff
Through the wind
And the roots settle down yet again
It's the circle of plants
It's the circle of plants
It's the circle of plants
It's the circle of plants
It's very difficult for anybody born since 1914
To realize how profoundly different the world is now
From what it was when I was a child
I try as best I can in spite of my years
To get used to living in a world of atom bombs
A world where ancient empires vanish like morning mist
The world is altogether so different
From what it was when I was young
