The message

It came in at night

Traveled in the dark

Found its way to me

Nestled in the text were memories and promises

Photographs of time passed too

Pretty words, tender sentences, even some emojis.

All of things true.

Then I saw what all this was intended to say.

Words that hurt. That stay forever.

She said the sea has taken you from me.

No letters.

No calls.

No messages.

So I found someone else.

You are no longer wanted here.

We are having fun.

The date was long ago, a year.

So I picked up my seabag, not much in it.

Her photograph.

Thanked all those that rescued me.

I had been lost at sea.

Told any that would listen that I was walking home.

My loving wife and children were waiting for me.

I walked in darkness knowing the emptiness ahead.

It was just me and the sea.
