I walk the streets of hollowed out dreams

Down the alleys of pain and life spent

Through the paths worn by the soles of the classes

Yet I can't feel the air nor the lament

Broken ones have lain here before me

In houses made of stale cast offs and tattered twines

No hope abounds here for the flesh

As is written in all these wrinkled lines

Oh yes, they pretend to look but do not see

Those lives passed on in all these places

For their eyes will not focus

On the misery etched upon these faces.

Please forgive them for their blindness

For them there is no pain

To see what is before you

Could make you insane

Their golden tresses and lockets

Sheild their lives from what is real

It's just a broken old soul on the street

Whom they care not to deal

Just walk on by with haste

And look the other way

With no worth here to see

So, you won't soon fall prey

The pain of the sight you pass

Has no fault in you

So, write it off as their misery

Nothing we can do

One day as you go on by

The beggar is gone to a better place

His street home is no more

He's left the human race

Not a tear is shed in his name

Nor a funeral to attend

Only and empty sidewalk spot

And a spirit to begin

Look to the sky up above

Say a little prayer for the soul
