A pond with a heron

It's barely moving

Still in the water

Watching and waiting

A family of ducklings

Swimming with their mother

She's keeping an eye out

Alert to the danger

Once in awhile there's

A rat at the edges

He's popping his head up

A lady is watching

She's stopped with a walker

Later some kids come

They holler and hoot and

And scare it away but

A bunny beside me

A squirrel above in

A tree with a trunk all

Of all of the creatures

The buddies and critters

There's one in the house

Favoured over the others

Crunching his chicken

From a dish in the kitchen

Inescapably leaving

Crumbs all around him

Through a back window

He watches the wind blow

And out of the front he's

Eyeballing the squirrels

Now he's meowing

For something or other

Wake up from my slumber

To serve at his pleasure
