Lyrics
Hey man, I thought my resume was pretty good, why didn't you hire me
Well I saw that you had a leg injury from deployment and that would hinder you
But it's a desk job
I didn't understand a lot of the achievements from the military and I'm lazy and didn't want to translate the jargon
But that isn't fair
My decision is final
Hiring managers don't know what they stand to gain
By employing a veteran that's disabled or maimed
They can contribute a lot, more than first meets your eye
But when you ignore those facts or get lazy you turn into a bad guy
Just because you don't feel like translating the jargon
Doesn't mean that hiring one of them cannot be a bargain
In fact their service builds their teamwork and their senses are sharpened
Years of deployment have left mentalities hardened
Thirty three percent don't get no help with transitioning
They're not tryna go door to door, add to soliciting
Do you understand the world that I am envisioning
Where a vet can build a house or help install air conditioning
There are resources out there to help them when they job seek
If they don't use this, it can help them hone in on their technique
We gotta remove the stigma from those who need to yelp
Veterans Affairs or Helmets to Hardhats can provide help
Get help in the industry, translate your resume
That's all you gotta do to make employment look like a grape
Trying the same thing over and over, looks like Groundhog Day
You'll be considered inactive status, not getting promotion or pay
Once they're back from service it's hard for them to recover
Even if they pass the background checks and tests with flying colors
They have trouble getting a job for both them and for their brothers
Even if they're a prodigy they're certainly not Donald Glover
Employers, they don't trust them
They don't think that they're adjusted
They think their skills in the workforce are out of date and rusted
The soldiers don't confront them
They don't dare try interrupting
They live in fear of how they'll go about life's reconstruction
They've seen things that they hope you'll never ever imagine
And you don't even bother having ounce of compassion
"With one leg bent under him and with his jaw in his throat"
That's the sort of stuff that one of your veterans wrote
But still you stay on your high horse
Watching as these vets are on course
Lose out on income, lose all their benefits,
Losing their place in the workforce
New rules have to be enforced
Because you're their money source
Any chance for vets to get what
they deserve, I endorse

Woah dude, you're totally right! Maybe I'll go hire a veteran now
So does that mean I'm hired now
No, you have 4 warrants for your arrest
Oh, golly gee
