Dear Mr X

I am writing this letter in accordance with my four week notice period, to inform you that from X I will no longer be acting in the role of X at X.

Recent events in my personal life, of which I am sure you have been made aware, have left me in an unfit state for work and I no longer feel that I can fulfil my job with an appropriate level of professionalism.

At the present time, I need to focus on rebuilding my family in the wake of our loss. I need to support my sons through their grief, figure out a way to reconnect with my husband and also allow myself time to come to terms with what has happened.

I have been in communication with Occupational Health in the weeks since X.XX.XXXX and they have suggested me taking a period of compassionate leave. Although I am very moved by X's commitment to supporting me at this time - you have always been a very generous employer -, I have come to the conclusion that I am no longer able to stay in this line of work.

The work that X does to support young people going through mental health crises is commendable, necessary and I have been very privileged to have played my part in providing this support. In light of these recent events, however, I now feel that I am unable to do this job without stepping outside of the professional parameters laid out in company policy.

I would like to thank you and everyone else at X for making these past X years some of the most professionally and personally fulfilling years of my life. I wish you all the best of luck moving forward.
