To the whiskey

Love affairs

And lonely nights

Soft as whispers

Loud as war cries

The echoes of his past

Collide with a future

At once so dark and bright

Calloused hands move quickly

As he scars the page with sin

And pours out recollection

Of the partner who was there through thick & thin

Now it's all he has left

Does he sink deeper

Or does he rise up again

Was it triumph

Or mere figment

It all now blurs together

No longer trusting

In the memories

That he once prized

Was he champion

Or mere demon

When viewed through a liquid lens

The answer's crystal clear

Once again the truth's disguised

Regret's a willing teacher

When the student is ready to begin

For now he'll pick the poison

And let his old friend win
