Lyrics
MARZANNA
I never saw her in the spring
It was always winter when she came
At the turn of the year
The wildness would appear in her eyes
She would stand there stretching out her hands
To touch the powers of the world
In a strange kind of prayer
With freezing air swirling round
She made bargains with the spirit world
For protections and for the code
To release the candlelight
From the archives of the night
But sometimes all protections fail
And all points of reference disappear
When the air is pure and deep
And the forest is asleep under snow
She was there one minute, gone the next
She reappeared but wasn't now alone
There were dark shapes in the air
And blue fires flared in her eyes
As far as I could tell
There were forces to be released
I was waiting for the call
But it never came, never came at all
Time itself was growing old
The day I searched for her again
Grain rippled in the fields
And firebirds were soaring in the sky
I found her sitting in her room
Coffee on her table growing cold
She was silent for a while
Then said her time would come again
When the winter season had returned
And all her wrongs had been redeemed
Then her finger idly drew a line
In the dust on the window sill
