Lyrics
I. The journey.
God of thunder,
Lord of Midgard,
Thor all mighty,
Mjolnir Wielder.
God of thunder,
Lord of Midgard,
Thor all mighty,
The strongest among the gods.
Thor, Loki, and his servants,
a brave journey they planned,
To bring fight to Jotunheimr,
Across the seas, in unknown land.
In the deep darkness they took refuge,
In what they thought was a great hall.
They experienced a violent earthquake,
So strong it scared them all.
At dawn, what seemed a great hall,
It was only a huge glove,
Of a giant who slept nearby,
Travelers were stunned.
Thor asked his name.
This one said to be called “Skyrmir”.
The giant recognized Thor.
But did not care and went to his chores.
II. The bag.
When the giant returned in the night,
Pointing at his bag,
Offered food to Thor’s team,
And hereupon, he fell asleep.
However, in spite of his strength,
And the times he tried,
Thor, the mighty god,
Could not loosen the knot.
Suspecting mockery,
Mjolnir did not wait,
Thor jumped high up to the sky,
And hit Skyrmir with all his might,
The giant asked sleepily,
If a leaf has fallen upon him,
The travelers’ jaws did hit the floor,
While the giant went back to snore.
III. The lord of these lands.
When Skyrmir woke up from his dream,
He tells them they should go and meet,
Utgarda-Loki, the lord of these lands,
A powerful giant, with magical hands.
In the middle of a desert,
A huge castle rises,
With a high gate and drawbridge
with clouds to its ridge.
To their encounter, at the great gate,
Utgarda-loki introduces himself.
He invites them into his huge hall,
Travelers accept this call.
Once already at his chambers,
He challenges Thor’s team,
To play whatever game they propose,
To see who was better at those.
IV. The Games.
Loki claimed to be the fastest in eating contests,
So, the giant summoned “Logi”.
Who in a blink of an eye was able,
To devour meat, bones, plate, and table.
Then the young servant Thjalfi,
Said he can run very fast.
“Hugi” was summoned by the giant king,
Who finished the race, leaving a zing!
Thor, who was very thirsty.
